Help can be accessed in two ways :
Right click item (no '>' marker);
Click in Help button;
Navigate around help by selecting a
new topic or menu by clicking in a
See-Also button, or by selecting a
new topic from a menu.

Memory
Picshare needs 500K of XMS or EMS,
and 200K of DOS. Picshare will use
the greater of EITHER XMS OR EMS.
If an image is too large for current
XMS/EMS memory, it goes to temporary
storage, in the path specified by
the TMP/TEMP environment variable.
Use the DOS SET command to set eg
set TMP=d:\temp

Adjusting the sliders, to set the
filter and action when correct.

Mouse
Picstar supports any Microsoft
compatible two button mouse.
Press left button to action an item.
Press right button on an '>' item
for the parameter window for item,
or for help if there is no '>'.

Image types supported
Picshare will load uncompressed
TGA 1, 4, 8, 16, 24, 32 bit files;
TIFF 1, 4, 8, 24 bit files;
BMP 1, 4, 8, 24 bit files;
Picstar will save
TIFF, TGA 8 bit files (greyscale);
TGA, TIFF, BMP 24 bit files (clr).

Greyscale /w
Greyscale
A greyscale image is one plane.
The value of any pixel can range
from zero (black) to 255 (white).
If the greyscale plane is one plane
of colour image, regard value 255
as full colour, rather than white.

A colour image is represented as
three planes, Red, Green and Blue.

Picked colour /w
Picked colour
At any one time, there is a picked
colour, and a picked greylevel.
The colour is used if a colour image
is current and the greylevel is used
for greyscale images.

Histogram
A colour image shows 3 plane
histograms, and a greyscale
image shows one.
One histogram shows, for each pixel
value from zero (black) to 255
(white or full colour) the number
of pixels in the image with that
colour or greylevel value.

Click on bar to action, off bar
to move bar.
Change up by clicking on PARENT.
Right click to select for
multiple loads.
Click in name box to edit name.
Load Save

Save image
If you do not set the save file type
then an image from a file will have
its original file type; else it will
use the current save file type.
Click in the file name to edit name.

Create copy image
Copies either the area under mask if
active, or current image if not.
Drop Mask Image
Drop /w
Drop image
Left click to drop current image.
Right click to drop all images, or
all except the current image.
Once you have dropped an image you
have created, it is gone forever !

Choose any grey for the workboard
from black (0) to white (15).
Choose any inversion colour
("inverted" display of boxes etc).
Try value 255 if in doubt.
Choose dither off or on. Dithering
is to compensate for the limited
colours of screen and display card.
Image Greyscale

Left click on bar or in Load button
to load the image under bar.
Right click, or use the INS key, to
select several images, and click the
load button to load.
Enter key loads file under cursor.
Copy Save Directories

Change zoom value
Means zooming out from workboard.
Images will be halved in size for
each value of zoom.

Allows you to convert a greyscale
image into a grey colour image.

Allows you to convert a colour
image into a greyscale image,
all planes treated equally.

This is the name shown on the top
of the screen. Its associated
dimensions displayed adjacent.

Slider the cursor using the
right mouse button.

Increase contrast of image
The slider allows you to :
Increase contrast (towards bright);
Decrease contrast (towards flat).
The slider value indicates the
strength of the operation.

Smooth /w
Smooth or blur image
This smooths, defocuses or blurs an
image. Any sharp points or edges are
merged into one another.
This is the opposite of the Sharpen.
Sharpen
Negative /w
Create negative of image
All pixels are negatived :
Black < - > White
Red < - > Cyan
Green < - > Magenta
Blue < - > Yellow
Contrast
Sharpen /w
Sharpen or unblur image
Emphasises the edges between areas
of different colour or greylevel.
Sharpen moves pixel values away from
the average of surrounding pixels.
Smooth
Brighten /w
Brighten or darken image
Brightens or darkens an image.
Move the slider towards white to
brighten the image, or towards
black to darken the image.
Contrast
Paint /w
Paint image to a colour
The Paint lets you wipe with black,
white or the picked colour, using
a variable sized wiper.
The left button wipes. The right
button sizes the wiper.
Pick
Resize /w
Change shape or size of image
Move and/or size the frame.
Left click in Resize to action.
Copy Zoom
Mirror /w
Mirror image left to right
This does a left-right mirror
operation on the image.
Flip Rotate
Flip /w
Flip from top to bottom
This does a top-bottom mirror
operation on the image.

Rotate /w
Rotate image
Choose a rotation of 90 degrees
to the left or right.

Hist-display /w
Toggle histogram display
A left click on this option will
turn the histogramy on if off,
or refresh the display if on.
Right click to set default to off
or on, and to change display format.
Pick Colour_image
Pick /w
Pick colour for editing
Select pick, and click on a pixel in
the current image. The pixel value
and colour are displayed in the
histogram display box.

Paint /w
Paint image to a colour
The Paint lets you wipe with black, white or the
picked colour, using a variable sized wiper. Choose
spray and a strength if required.
Use the right button to size the wiper, and use the
left button to wipe.
Use the Paint to clean areas, or to join edges ready
for filling, or just to touch-up.
Mask /w
Switch on or off the box mask
Use box mask to copy a portion of
image or to copy images together.
Left click in the mask to move, or
in the tag to size the mask.
The mask will stay fixed within the
board window until you move it.
